The first trailer for the April 13 release makes it look like a straight-up horror movie, which would be pretty awesome.
X-MEN: THE NEW MUTANTS
Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, Henry Zaga and newcomer Blu Hunt will play a group of teens who must escape a secret facility where they’re being held while they learn to cope with their superpowers.
Hunt, who is of Native American descent, will join the Twentieth Century Fox project that has been billed as a horror thriller. The genre bend to the movie is in line with how Logan had elements of a Western while Deadpool was an action-comedy that deconstructed the typical comic book movie.
Josh Boone’s New Mutants will skew a bit darker than Fox’s other X-Men movies, as the studio aims to put a fresh spin on the superhero genre, similar to how Logan riffed on westerns and Deadpool deconstructed the genre.
Daredevil‘s Rosario Dawson is staying in the Marvel world. The actress is currently in talks to join Fox’s New Mutants alongside Maisie Williams and Anya Taylor-Joy.
Kept under wraps, but will introduce a new group of mutants.
