Season 1, Episode 1 - The Exorcist does a wonderful job in its pilot episode of differentiating itself from the 1973 William Friedkin film. It’s not a continuation of the characters in the franchise, but plays in the same universe the films events took place in and it may be one of the grittiest shows Fox has ever attempted.
