Media Rights Capital has signed The Witch writer-director Robert Eggers to pen and helm six to eight episodes that will follow the life of Rasputin, the confidant of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia. Jay Van Hoy and Lars Knudsen’s Parts and Labor are set to produce the project.
This is the second project that follows the life of the mystical faith healer Rasputin currently in the works, with Jason Hall writing a feature for Leonardo DiCaprio to potentially star in. That project is set up at Warner Bros.
Eggers, Van Hoy, and Knudsen are also separately working on a remake of Nosferatu and the medieval film The Knight for Jeff Robinov’s Studio 8.
The Witch from Eggers bowed this past weekend and grossed over $8.8 million after being a hit at last year’s Sundance Film Festival. Eggers is repped by WME.
