William Fichtner is the latest to join Fox’s forthcoming action sequel INDEPENDENCE DAY 2. Sources reveal that Fichtner has nabbed a leading role in the upcoming series, with a smaller role in this next installment that will expand into larger presence in future entries.
Fichtner will play a brash general, starring alongside Jessie Usher, Liam Hemsworth, Bill Pullman, Sela Ward, Jeff Goldblum, Judd Hirsch, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Joey King, Vivica A. Fox, Deobia Oparei, and Travis Tope in the sci-fi sequel. Roland Emmerich will return to direct, with a script penned by Carter Blanchard.
The sequel will pick up twenty years after the events of the first film, following Will Smith’s character’s son and others as they do battle with the alien menace that’s returned for vengeance.
Fichtner has made a name for himself as a talented character actor in a number of classic films, including The Dark Knight, Heat, Elysium, Armageddon, The Perfect Storm, Crash and Black Hawk Down.
Most recently, he appeared as the villainous businessman Eric Sacks in the latest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and opposite Hilary Swank, Tommy Lee Jones, and Meryl Streep in the drama The Homesman. Next up, Fichtner will star in the gambling drama Fast Company, opposite Kevin Pollak.
He’s repped by UTA and Intellectual Artists Management.
