Legendary Pictures has tapped Will Ferrell to star in an UNTITLED ESPORTS COMEDY from scribes Michael Kvamme and Jordan Dunn. Legendary will produce alongside Mosaic and Gary Sanchez Productions.
The film takes a comedic look into the quickly growing sports gaming arena in pop culture. It centers on Ferrell as a member of a professional eSports team who is also an anomaly in a sport where players usually retire in their 20s due to slowing hand-eye coordination. Two real top eSports teams, Evil Geniuses and Fnatic, are in talks to take part in the film.
Gravity Squared’s Patrick Connelly and John Beach will co-produce. Universal is handling world distribution outside of China.
This isn’t Ferrell’s first venture into sports comedies having previously starred in Semi-Pro and Talladega Nights. He is currently at work on Holmes & Watson, a comedy that reunites Ferrell with his Step Brothers cohort John C. Reilly.
