“Blockers” Looks to be One of Next Year’s Filthier R-Rated Comedies (Video)

Universal

With Universal’s latest Blumhouse horror flick Happy Death Day coming out on Friday, the studio needed an appropriate to put in front of it in theaters. What they came up with was the first Red Band trailer for the seriously R-rated comedy Blockers (formerly The Pact) starring , and .

In the movie, the three play the parents of teen daughters who have made a sex pact to lose their virginity on prom night. Once the parents discover this, they must do whatever they can to save their daughters from making such a bad decision.

It’s the directorial debut by Pitch Perfect writer , actually working from someone else’s script, basically five writers with Brian Kehoe & Jim Kehoe, Jon Hurwitz & Hayden Schlossberg and Eben Russell all credited for the screenplay. Besides Pitch Perfect, Cannon also wrote and created the short-lived Netflix series Girlboss.

The movie is produced by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver of Point Grey Pictures, who also produced Neighbors (co-starring Barinholtz) and This is the End. Hurwitz and Schlossberg (Harold & Kumar) also produced along with DMG Entertainment’s Chris Fenton. Exec. producers are Nathan Kahane and Joseph Drake from Good Universe, DMG’s Chris Cowles, Josh Fagen, Dave Stassen and Jonathan McCoy.

The trailer looks very funny (and kind of gross), but that’s to be expected when you team comedy vet (Knocked Up, This is Forty) with Barinholtz and , who continues his comedy runs after appearing in Amy Schumer’s Trainwreck and the Tina Fey-Amy Poehler comedy Sisters.  You can watch it below, but if you’re at work, you might want to use headphones cause there’s a lot of F-words and such.
