Out from Heretic Management’s Jeff Portnoy and Brio Entertainment’s Brehan Fitzgerald and Mia Chang, the hot spec MAYDAY 109 is gaining traction, with a number of producers chomping at the bit to read.

I can confirm that the Rickard Pictures and Flynn Picture Co. have teamed to bring the project into New Line Cinema, where both companies have first-look deals. I can also confirm that several formal requests are in to read the spec, but that territories are still beginning to be assigned.

The period drama is based on actual events and tells the story of how a young John F. Kennedy struggled to save the crew of his PT Boat after it was sunk by a Japanese warship during World War II.

The spec was penned by duo Evan Kilgore and Samuel Franco. Kilgore is known for scripting the thriller Butterflies of Bill Baker, which stars Nashville‘s Will Chase and The Affair‘s Marin Hinkle. Franco is known for executive producing 2014’s Affluenza and will next produce the historical drama Six Minutes To Freedom.

Spec is now into:
