Rachel McAdams has entered early talks to star in the upcoming Oni comic book adaptation COLD CITY.
The project, which is also in talks with director Daniel Espinosa (Easy Money, Safe House), centers on a young female MI6 agent who is sent undercover into Berlin during the Cold War to investigate the murder of a fellow officer over a rumored list of double agents. McAdams would play the lead, with casting lists currently being prepped for the other leading roles.
Oni Comics’ production arm Closed on Mondays will produce the film. Their work includes “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” and a dozen or so in development projects including Universal’s “Resurrection” and recent “Young & Hungry” lister Paul J. Salamoff’s upcoming “The Last Breath”.
McAdams, who is perhaps most well known for “The Notebook” has most recently appeared on screen in “The Vow” and both installments in the “Sherlock Holmes” franchise, as well as the female lead in Woody Allen’s “Midnight in Paris”.
Espinosa, who is just making his full time leap to American film is currently attached to the rumored Leonardo DiCaprio crime thriller “The Outsider” and Summit Entertainment’s “Child 44″.
McAdams currently has Terrence Malick’s “To the Wonder” and Richard Curtis’ “About Time” set for release, and she is in pre-production for Anton Corbijn’s upcoming “A Most Wanted Man”.
McAdams and Espinosa are both repped by UTA and Magnolia Entertainment.
