Based on the French film, Papillon Noir, the project has been in development for years with Nicolas Cage and Samuel L. Jackson previously attached to star. Banderas will play a down-and-out screenwriter picks up a drifter (Meyers) and offers him a place to stay. The drifter ends up taking him hostage and forces him to write and deep, dark secrets begin to surface.
Justin Stanley will adapt the screenplay originally written by Herve Korian. Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi of Ambi Group will produce and finance alongside Silvio Muraglia of Paradox Studios. Marc Frydman will also produce. Mikael Wiren and Alexandra Kim will serve as executive producers.
Banderas starred in last year’s Chilean miners drama, The 33 and can be seen next in 33 dias as Pablo Picasso as well as Security opposite Ben Kingsley. He is repped by Paradigm and Media Art Entertainment.
Meyers recently starred in the film Stonewall and appears in the TV mini-series Roots. He also stars in the upcoming drama London Town and the thriller Shadow. He is repped by Brillstein Entertainment.
