After directing Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension and editing this year’s hit genre movie Get Out, Gregory Plotkin is in negotiations to direct HELLFEST for CBS Films, the Tracking Board has exclusively learned.
Gale Anne Hurd is producing via her company Valhalla Motion Pictures, and Seth M. Sherwood (Leatherface) is writing the script. CBS Films president Terry Press is a longtime fan of the Hellfest concept, believing it could spark a horror franchise.
Set on Halloween night, the story follows a costumed killer who begins murdering unsuspecting patrons at a horror theme park.
Jennifer Chambers Lynch was previously attached to direct for CBS Films, whose executives Alex Ginno and Mark Ross are overseeing the project on behalf of the studio.
Plotkin edited all of the Paranormal Activity sequels except for the one he directed himself, which grossed $78 million worldwide on a $10 million budget. His deal isn’t closed yet, but he’s represented by ICM Partners and Circle of Confusion, while Sherwood is repped by UTA and Kailey Marsh Media.
