Charles Band‘s classic horror franchise The Puppet Master is posed to get a modern makeover courtesy of Transformers producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian of Di Bonaventura Pictures. Dallas Sonnier and Jack Heller from Caliber Media are also set to produce. Bone Tomahawk screenwriter S. Craig Zahler is attached to write the script which will be titled PUPPET MASTER: THE LITTLEST REICH.
The original Puppet Master franchise began in 1989 and focused on a group of dangerous and evil puppets under an Egyptian spell. The first installment paved the way to sequels and an expanded universe that included comic books, toys and a loyal cult fanbase. The reboot plans to continue the tradition of the franchise through multiple storylines, expanded mythology as well as practical effects.
The reboot will follow a divorced young man who finds a Puppet Master Blade doll and plans to sell it at a convention in Oregon celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Toulon Murders, a story from the original franchise. Things get out of control when the puppets at the convention become animated and go on a killing spree.
Zahler is repped by UTA.
