The Mindy Project creator and star Mindy Kaling is teaming with her co-star on the show Ed Weeks for a new ABC comedy. The untitled single-camera series has received a script commitment plus penalty from the network.
The new project was co-written by Weeks and Hannah Mackay and follows a lesbian couple, Laurel and Marisa, who move to Laurel’s conservative hometown in Kansas with their teenage son. While there, they realize that their assumptions about the Midwest might be wrong.
Universal TV is the studio for the series and Weeks, MacKay, Kaling, and 3 Arts’ Howard Klein are set to executive produce. Kaling recently signed a deal with Universal and under the deal, she has another sibling-based comedy in the works at NBC.
Previously, Weeks and Mackay sold another pilot to ABC about a lesbian lothario and her straight, male best friend starring Tattiawna Jones and Andy Ridings.
