The Weinstein Company’s remake of THE INTOUCHABLES is looking to add Nicole Kidman and Amara Karan to the cast. The two would join Bryan Cranston and Kevin Hart in the remake of the French original directed by Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano and starring Francois Cluzet and Omar Sy.
Neil Burger is set to direct the script by Jon Hartmere. The story follows the unlikely friendship between a quadriplegic aristocrat injured in a paragliding accident and a young caregiver from a poor neighborhood who ends up restoring his desire for life.
Colin Firth and Tom Shadyac were once in talks to join the cast, but eventually dropped out. Shadyac was also set to direct. At one point, Paul Feig, who wrote a draft of the script, was also attached to direct.
Kidman’s most recent role in Lion earned her a Golden Globe nom and continues to gain awards buzz. She can be seen next in the HBO limited series Big Little Lies and on the big screen in the upcoming remake of The Beguiled as well as the Yorgos Lanthimos-directed The Killing of a Sacred Deer.
Karan recently appeared in the critically acclaimed HBO mini-series The Night Of opposite Riz Ahmed and John Turturro. Her previous film credits include The Darjeeling Limited and Jadoo.
Kidman is repped by CAA and Shanahan Management.
Karan is repped by UTA, United Agents, and Principal Entertainment LA.
