Discovery Channel’s FBI crime-drama MANIFESTO has booked Paul Bettany to star as Ted Kaczynski, also known as the “Unabomber.” The scripted project comes on the heels of Discovery’s ratings hit miniseries Harley and the Davidsons.
The series explores how the FBI caught infamous criminal masterminds, with the first season center on FBI agent Jim Fitzgerald, a linguistics specialist who challenged tradition with a new approach to intelligence gathering. After a 20 year manhunt, Fitzgerald caught Kaczynski when he discovered that the key to unlocking his true could be found in the language of “The Manifesto,” a detailed account of Kaczynski’s plots.
Kevin Spacy and Dana Brunetti executive producer through Trigger Street Productions. Andrew Sodroski penned the pilot and will also executive produce with Troy Searer and Johnn Goldwyn. Greg Yaitanes will act as showrunner and will direct all the episodes.
Bettany has appeared in such critically-acclaimed drama as Gangster No. 1, Master and Commander, The Da Vinci Code, and A Beautiful Mind. More recently he has grown his relationship with the Marvel universe as he transitioned from voicing Jarvis in the Iron Man films to playing Vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War.
