Zachary Quinto and Emma Roberts have signed on to star in MICHAEL. Based on an article that appeared in The New York Times Magazine, the drama centers on a gay man who is taunted so much it drives him to the brink of insanity, and he becomes an anti-gay Christian pastor in response. James Franco has signed on to star as the pastor, while Quinto will play his former boyfriend and Roberts has been cast as his current girlfriend. Renowned indie director Gus Van Sant is executive producing the project from writer/director Justin Kelly.
Quinto is best known for playing the modernized version of Spock in J.J. Abrams rebooted “Star Trek” series. He also starred in NBC’s “Heroes” and FX’s “American Horror Story.” Next up, Quinto is set to star in Steven Spielberg’s untitled George Gershwin project, as well as “The Girl Who Invented Kissing” opposite Natalie Dormer.
Roberts recenlty appeared opposite Franco in Gia Coppola’s coming-of-age drama “Palo Alto” and in “American Horror Story” on FX. Roberts will next appear in Tony McNamara’s dramedy “Ashby” with Mickey Rourke, Nat Wolff, and Sarah Silverman. She’s also set to star in Jonathan Mostow’s action/thriller “For the Dogs” with Sam Worthington.
Quinto is repped by CAA and Untitled Entertainment. Roberts is with CAA and Sweeney Entertainment.
