As the 2016 Austin Film Festival closes out, we’re recapping some of the highlights of the week. Each year, AFF furthers the art and craft of filmmaking by inspiring and championing the work of filmmakers who use the language of film and television to tell a story. With the 2016 Austin Film Festival around the corner, the finalists for the fest’s annual screenplay competition have been announced. This year, 45 scripts were chosen for the Final Round with one winner to be determined in each of the 11 categories.

The 23rd annual Austin Film Festival and Screenwriters Conference has made two new additions to its impressive film slate. For the fest’s centerpiece film, they have selected STX’s coming-of-age dramedy The Edge of Seventeen starring Hailee Steinfeld and Woody Harrelson while the closing night film will be Open Road’s boxing biopic Bleed For This starring Miles Teller.

The Austin Film Festival has announced their slate of films and panels for the 23rd annual fest which takes place from October 13-20. The event includes screenings of festival favorites Lion, Nerdland, Trespass Against Us as well as the buzzworthy movie musical La La Land.
