The Oscar-nominated filmmakers of Little Miss Sunshine tackle the 1973 tennis match between Billie Jean King (Emma Stone) & Bobby Riggs (Steve Carell).
BATTLE OF THE SEXES
Two of Toronto’s bigger premieres feature great sports stars of the past as portrayed by popular actors from the present. One of the movies has a much bigger and more important message, though they both build up to spectacular match-ups.
Oscar-winning and nominated actors Emma Stone and Steve Carell take on the roles of legendary tennis players Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs, respectively, in the first trailer for Fox Searchlight’s Battle of the Sexes.
Alan Cumming is the latest actor to join the growing cast of the Billie Jean King biopic Battle of the Sexes, which will focus on the groundbreaking 1973 “Battle of the Sexes” tennis match between King and Bobby Riggs.
Stone was initially attached, but originally had to bow out due to scheduling conflicts. Brie Larson was approached to fill the role, but now Stone has come back into the fold. Stone will star as tennis pro Billie Jean King in the sports drama, opposite Steve Carell as Bobby Riggs.
Co-starring Steve Carell, the upcoming biopic, BATTLE OF THE SEXES, was set to star Emma Stone as Billie Jean King, the 1973 female tennis pro who defeated a male former Wimbledon champion.
The stars will play Billy Jean King and Bobby Riggs in the biopic following their epic tennis match.
