Season 1, Episode 5 – Pitch uses the MLB trade deadline as an opportunity to give baseball players some human empathy and instead makes a big sloppy mess. Ginny comes away seeming spoiled and unsympathetic and the show in general mishandles its baseball details.
Season 2, Episode 7 – In Superstore’s very first Halloween episode, Dina takes on the case of the missing fruit crate, putting a damper on the holiday by interrogating her fellow employees.
Season 1, Episode 8 – A pivotal decision has to be made in The Good Place but that doesn’t stop the comedy from rolling out.
Season 1, Episode 8 – Better Things offers us another solid episode of the quintessential mother-daughters relationship. All three kids stereotypically act their age, and Sam (Pamela Adlon) addresses each one in ways we’ve come to expect: with a combination of cussing and hugs.
Season 1, Episode 5 – President Kirkman’s manhunt for the terrorist (supposedly) responsible for the attack hits some bumps, while the FBI investigation leads to an alarming discovery, which will have an effect on Kirkman’s administration.
Season 1, Episode 5 – The Goldbergs puts on a spooky spoof of Stephen King stories with “Stefan King.” The real winning moment of the episode, though, is the dynamic between siblings Barry and Erica.
Season 3, Episode 9 – In a rare off episode, You’re the Worst devotes its entire running time to a serious story centering on Vernon and Paul—two characters mainly used for comedic relief—as they get stranded in the wilderness and question their marriages.
Season 5, Episode 4 – On this week’s Arrow Oliver and Lyla head out of Star City to break Diggle out of prison. In Ollie’s absence, Team Arrow and Quentin Lance have to take on Tobias Church on their own.
Season 3, Episode 5 – Younger is continuing to open new sexual dynamics, build new tensions and resolve storylines as the writers find new ways to make serious material, like ageism, lighthearted.
Season 2, Episode 5 – Once again, Impastor struggles as it attempts to blend together serious storylines with life or death stakes, like Alexa being held at gunpoint by a crazed arsonist, with inconsequential subplots, like Dora’s interest in her would-be prom date from high school.
Season 3, Episode 5 – Dre reasserts his status as Prank King with his most complex prank yet: convincing Junior he killed Charlie and is being haunted by his ghost. Meanwhile, Ruby transforms an innocent neighborhood tradition into the Purge.
Season 1, Epsiode 4 – As the central mystery of the show deepens, Frequency loses some of its more exciting elements, and reverts into just a cop show.
Season 1, Episode 5 – It’s the Speechless Halloween episode! The DiMeo family has a tradition of dressing up together for Halloween, but the tradition is threatened by teenage wants and needs. Watch J.J. get drunk, and Ray grow heartbroken, while Maya allows Jimmy to pierce his ear and listen to ’90s ska.
Season 6, Episode 7 – The real Butcher shows in this episode of American Horror Story, stopping Agnes from continuing to slaughter in her name. The combination of found footage and Big Brother style reality show that made the last episode so interesting begins to wear thin, as characters begin dying right and left.
Season 1, Episode 3 – Someone is targeting Chance, threatening to expose his deepest, darkest secrets—Chance has his own twisted past. He teams up with Dee to take Raymond down, but is Raymond really the one responsible? I’m not convinced.
Season 3, Episode 3 – Fresh Off the Boat celebrates Halloween this week with “Louisween” that finds the show retreading the same ground, this time during a Halloween setting that pits the Huangs against each other.
Season 3, Episode 4 – The Flash sees two new metahumans arrive in “The New Rogues” leading Barry to take Jesse Quick out of training and directly into the fight while Joe, Iris, and Barry deal with a new dynamic in their relationship.
Season 1, Episode 4 – No Tomorrow steps up its subject matter in “No Holds Barred.” With a lighthearted tone but a realistic view on the complexities of human desires and relationships, the show manages to address bold topics while keeping things fun.
Season 1, Episode 5 – The Copelands discover two more Aftermath monsters on their way to The Alamo, a fortress led by Karen’s horny old Air Force buddy, Boone. Dana meets Martin, a boy who has an instant crush on her and Bri thinks she’s falling in love with Devyn. Then, one of the Copelands dies when a horde of skinwalker hybrids attack the compound.
Season 1, Episode 5 – Bull returns to New York City and helps a man accused of murder who falsely confessed to the crime, by demonstrating that coercion happens all the time in life.
Season 1, Episode 9 – In Atlanta‘s penultimate episode this season, Earn and Van deal with some uncomfortable cultural appropriation in a rich ATL couple’s mansion.
Season 1, Episode 3 – We’re now officially half way through this season of Channel Zero, and this episode does nothing to convince me that the writers have a satisfying endgame in sight.
Season 1, Episode 3 – Katie (Katy Mixon) displays behavior in this episode that most adults wouldn’t admit to – pettiness. It turns out that the end justifies the means on Tuesday’s episode of American Housewife.
Season 1, Episode 5 – Despite a few rocky points, “The Game Plan” shows why This Is Us works: it’s got a lot of heart.
Season 4, Episode 5 – Agents of SHIELD‘s “Lockup” offers a lot of action with only a sparse amount of story as the narrative spins its wheels on filler. Action is fun but it could use some more forward momentum.
Season 1, Episode 8 – Mary + Jane is off to WeedCon with more clichés, more hookups and more mixed messages about feminism than ever.
Season 1, Episode 4 – The CIU team must investigate the case of a woman who went to prison for poisoning her own son on this week’s Conviction, as Hayes must face the music for her recent transgressions on national television. A somewhat unremarkable episode, but it’s much more solid than last week.
Season 3, Episode 6 –Gotham attacks the love arcs when Tetch plans a series of homicides for Gordon to witness and makes him choose between two women he cares about. Mayor Penguin works up the courage to tell Nygma he loves him as Nygma meets someone new that reminds him of his old flame.
Season 2, Episode 5 – Maze and Amenadiel work to resolve the chaos caused when Urial, another one of Charlotte’s sons, arrives on Earth with a divine agenda while Charlotte battles the impossible schedule of a career woman, wife, and mother.
